Sensex, Nifty on a flat note, Pharma stocks gain


Domestic equity markets opened on a positive note on Thursday.The key benchmark index BSE Sensex opened 68.8 points higher at 28,291. The NSE Nifty opened 17.85 points higher at  8,585.80.
 the BSE Sensex was trading 0.12 per cent lower at 28,189. the NSE Nifty was up 2.20 points at 8,570. Pharma stocks Dr Reddy’s (up 1.76 per cent), Sun Pharma (up 1.43 per cent) and Lupin (1.17 per cent) were among the top gainers in the Nifty pack. the BSE Sensex was trading 0.08 per cent higher at 28,246.





Infosys and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories were trading 1.30 per cent higher at Rs 1,101 and Rs 4,245, respectively, in the Sensex pack.
On Wednesday, The BSE Sensex ended up 0.54 per cent, while the Nifty rose 0.6 per cent, marking their highest close since July 23.
Global markets performance
New York: The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite rose on Wednesday following three days of losses as tech shares advanced, while the blue-chip Dow index ticked lower, weighed by Disney’s largest daily drop in almost seven years. Gains in major tech companies Google and Facebook led the advance on the Nasdaq.
London: The FTSE 100 closed up 1 per cent at 6,752.41 some 5 percent below a record high of 7,122.74 points reached in April.
Tokyo: Japanese shares rose on Thursday as the yen sank to a two-month low against the dollar, with Meiji Holdings soaring after boosting its profit outlook but Kirin Holdings dropping after revising down its sales forecast.
The Nikkei average rose 0.7 per cent to 20,750.41 while the broader Topix gained 1.1 per cent to 1,683.94.
